If you want to see the timber before you choose your new worktop, solid wood samples are a great idea. If you’re ready to buy solid wood samples, we have a wide range of different timbers, colours and grain patterns to choose from which can help you find the right option for your kitchen.
Choosing a solid wood worktop is a big decision, and it can be difficult to judge the colour and grain from just a photograph on a website. Natural wood can look quite different depending on the lighting in your kitchen as well as the colour of your cupboards, flooring and walls. If you buy solid wood samples, you can see the real timber before placing your order. Our solid wood sample pack options cover a wide selection of popular and more unusual timbers.
European Oak has a warm, natural colour and a lovely grain, and the different shades of brown give the timber plenty of character. Oak is also strong and hard wearing and this makes it a practical choice for a busy kitchen. It works just as well in a traditional kitchen as it does in a more modern design. We have several Oak timber worktop samples available, including standard Oak, 30mm Oak, Oak with 20mm staves and prime Oak. Our Oak worktops are available in a range of lengths and widths, depending on the product.
If you want a lighter or warmer coloured worktop, Iroko, Beech and Ash are all worth looking at. Iroko has a yellowish to golden colour which naturally becomes darker over time. It is a strong and durable hardwood and works well if you want a warm, natural look. Beech is lighter in colour, ranging from pale cream to soft pink tones. It’s got a simple grain and gentle colouring which make it suitable for a wide range of kitchen styles.
Ash also has a light appearance and a strong and straight grain. It is a versatile timber that can work particularly well in bright, modern kitchens. Our hardwood sample swatches make it easier to compare these lighter woods and see which one will best suit your kitchen.
European Walnut has a rich chocolate brown colour and a fairly straight grain, and it can add contrast to a kitchen, particularly if you use it alongside light coloured cupboards. We also have an American Black Walnut sample. This is a darker timber with a rich appearance that can make your worktops a real feature. Another option is an American Walnut Full Stave sample. Full stave worktops are made from wider pieces of timber, giving them a different look from standard worktops made from smaller staves.
Maple is a good choice if you want a light and clean looking worktop. It has a pale, creamy colour and a straight grain, making it well suited to modern kitchens. American Cherry has a warmer appearance. The wood starts fairly pale and gradually becomes a deeper golden brown as it ages. This gives the worktop a naturally changing appearance over time. Both Maple and Cherry worktops are made from A Grade timber and top quality 40mm staves.
Sapele has a medium to dark reddish brown colour with a fine and fairly even grain. It is sometimes known as Sapele Mahogany because of its similar appearance to mahogany. Wenge is much darker, with rich brown and black tones and a straight grain. It can create a dramatic look and works particularly well when you want your worktop to stand out.
Zebrano is one of the most distinctive timbers in our range. Its strong striped grain gives it its Zebrawood name and makes it a good choice if you want a noticeable feature in your kitchen. These timber worktop samples give you the chance to compare some of the more unusual options before making your final decision.
Our solid wood samples are generally 200mm x 150mm, although the thickness can vary depending on the particular product. Wood worktop samples allow you to see and feel the actual timber before ordering a full worktop. You can compare the colour and grain with your kitchen cupboards, flooring and other finishes. This can be particularly helpful because natural wood can look different in your home compared with a photograph online.
Delivery for samples ordered on their own is free, so they are a convenient option if you’re looking for free wood samples in the UK. The cost of the sample will also be refunded within 30 days if you go on to purchase a worktop. This means you can try the timber before making your final decision.
You can order a solid wood sample pack to help you compare different timbers. If you’re unsure between two or three options, ordering several hardwood sample swatches can make the choice much easier.
